"Vague began as a provincial post-punk DIY spoof of Vogue magazine. The fanzine was founded in 1979 at Salisbury College of Technology and Art by the cartoonist Perry Harris, the photographer Iggy Zevenbergen and me. I assumed more-or-less total editorial control by the third issue and adopted Vague as my punk nom de plume. The early issues featured Adam and the Ants, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division and the Pop Group. After the first Vague London office was established in an Elephant & Castle squat in 1983, publication became annual. In the mid-80s normal music coverage was largely ditched in favour of general counter-culture stuff, including the Situationists, conspiracy theories and cult films. Vague continues into the 21st century as an irregular psychogeography project based in Notting Hill, producing booklets, newsletters, films and website pages. Mostly I just drift."
